After going down a rabbit hole on the whole Millie Bobby Brown situation, I wanted to share my perspective. As you may have seen, Millie Bobby Brown has received some of the most direct hate from journalists in the media. You’d think bots on TikTok would have more to say about someone, but you'd be wrong.

The thing with bullying is that most people think social media is the prime cause, but what others fail to consider is that some people do it on purpose, even with their professional identity attached to it. In this case, Millie name-dropped journalists, including Lydia Hawken and Cassie Carpenter, for publishing articles solely based on her appearance. I only use these two women as examples because men are haters anyway, but it’s odd that in this age of social media, girls still publicly criticize others. Do they not think karma is going to come and bite them in the ass?

Anyways, of course I took a peek at their writings on this rainy Wednesday afternoon, and if anything, it did make me giggle. Hawken, of course, took her “neck for journalism” to write stuff like “Why Love Island Stars Are So Bad at Makeup” and “Why Stars Are Looking Skinnier Than Ever on the Red Carpet.” Like, girl, be so for real— we all know why. They are rich, and there’s a thing that rhymes with shmozempic. One of the many things that bothers me about writers like this is they simply don’t care how it makes them look. It’s so obvious they don’t have the skill set to craft an intelligently written article, so instead, they fend off whatever entertainment they can find and slap their name on it because rent’s due, and no mainstream celebrity would see it and call them out, right?

I personally love name-dropping. Millie Bobby Brown is pretty unproblematic and isn’t someone to respond to hate, which makes her an easy target for “journalists.” But I think her response was perfect given the situation. If anything, I would’ve added that it’s embarrassing, given that a 30-year-old is picking apart the appearance of a 21-year-old millionaire. She uses the phrase, “This isn’t journalism, this is bullying,” and I 100% agree. You don't get to call yourself a journalist if you rely on using other's titles and looks for views.

I’m all for writing to express opinions— I, for one, have many of those. I’m also aware my online presence for this blog is anonymous, but this anonymity doesn’t change my opinions, nor the strength with which I share them.

I truly think people live off insecurity. It’s shown in everything, and it’s included in everyone. I grew up with my mom always telling me that the mean girls were just jealous, but now that I’m at the age to really look into it, it’s more than them being jealous about whatever it was they were picking on me for. Instead, they were jealous that I wasn’t super insecure and vocal about it. They were jealous because insecurity wasn’t seeping out of me like it was them, and I think this situation is a prime example of that. So good for Millie for calling them out.

The therapist I saw last week asked me if I ever lash out at others in regard to my sudden swing of emotions, and I honestly told her no, which is why concepts like bullying are so weird to me. Someone could make me so incredibly frustrated, and still, you won’t see me taking it out on my friends or anyone, for that matter. I can’t imagine being at that level of discontent and taking to an online platform to publicly hate on a stranger.

ANYWAY, rant over. But I wanted to talk about this because, damn, some people need to get a life that doesn’t revolve around the lives of others. Ciao for now!
